Happy Cinco de Mayo, permsteaders! A couple de Mayo madness recipes from the seacasa for the holiday-
Midwest Mosqu-hito
1 bunch of fresh spring mint popping up in the yard
1 tsp honey from the cupboard
2 oz of fermented honey-mead/distillate/libation-hood
Juice of 1 lime from your lime tree
1/2 cup of carbonated mild cider
Ice from the ice box (because it's a special occasion and that's ok once in a while)
Mix it. Shake it. Blend it. Whatever.
Makes a nice accompany for a rare Mexican street delicacy, only found in one fair Mexican city
1 homemade baguette
1 avacado from your avacado tree
chicharonnes (salted pork belly fried in the fat rendered from the same belly as it is cooked)
Fiery green tomato salsa from last year's last tomato crop
Put everything but the bread on the bread and enjoy your cocktail.
What do the tropics have that the Midwest doesn't?
Well, not splitting firewood, for one thing....
