Haha, that cracked me right up, Bob. I re-read that Savio quote thinking about my old '78 Yamaha 3 cylinder, which was so odious, and indeed made me so sick at heart, and yes super liberated to get rid of it!!

My brother bought 2) used 2000 BMW R1100RT's. We did lots of 500-800 mile rides.
We finally did the camping trip he got them for. About 10,000 miles to tour the country in 5 1/2 weeks.
No planed stops destinations or sleeping arrangements till about an hour before we wanted to stop for the day.
We changed the oil in Arizona and he changed tires in Las Vegas.
It was the trip of a lifetime for us zig zaging the mid west and getting to the Pacific Ocean.
When we put our feet in the Atlantic at Cape Cod he said, "I don't need to ride for a long time". (I guess he had that "odious" feeling Manny and TS speak of.)
I said "I'm ready to head for Alaska, and I was/am serious.

Hats off to you and your brother, Bob....quite an accomplishment...I've been riding, off and on since I was 15....50 years ago....The last bike was a 98 Yamaha Royal Star 1300...Thought it prudent not to push my luck any further ha ha.. Plus, I am really tired of taking care of another gasoline motor...and the "Depends" bunch up on hot days..lol

Man, what an accomplishment, Bob. That is an awesome trip! I say get back on and head towards Alaska. Pack some beer because the cost is rediculous in BC. If you haven't read any Robert Pirsig pack that, too. Though Pirsig went for the Honda over the BMW.

I have an old binder full of quotes that I've found and loved throughout my life...

Today, the one ringing in my head is: "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation." (Which is not a correct Thoreau quote, but close enough)...

I'm trying really hard to not be one of them.
