Is there a type of fire-resistant material that I could use for liner? I'm thinking of playing off of what Manny did in his RMH changes. I would love to line the inside of a L shaped brick rocket stove and see what the difference is. I don't want this to be permanent, only something to test and mess around with.

You mean insulative right? You want to keep the heat on the fuel and slow down how much transfers to the bricks I assume? Insulating high temp ceramic board is probably your best bet, but you are going to run into problems with just about anything due to your configuration. If you can be very careful about how you poke the sticks in it will work, but the wood will tear up just about any material that will do what you want very quickly. That's one of the toughest challenges of building an insulated burn area. Anyway, here's a link to give you some search terms to see if you can find some locally. It's not very expensive in the amount you need. If you can't find any I have lots of offcuts I could send you.
