Herbivore Repellents Other Than Bone Sauce

George, you're bone sauce and turpentine work here is really inspiring. I used to boil up cayenne pepper in water and then strain it to spray on plants to keep bugs away. I just generally keep livestock away from areas I'm concerned about but I can see that this might be a problem as my food forest matures in several years and I want to graze it. I've never had any deer problems either, the 12 gauge shotgun seems to keep them away more than I'd like!

In researching tar based repellents, I happened upon a product calked Stanley's Crow Repellent. It is a now-discontinued product Youngblood used to use every year on his corn seed to keep the crows off. It is made from coal tar and creosote oil. I'd be willing to bet money that any type of tar (such as bone tar or pine tar) will work just as well.

Since we replanted some corn recently that had been coated with bone tar, which began sprouting just today, we should know in short order if Sepp's bone sauce is a good proxy for Stanley's Crow Repellent

Here is a research article from Finland that establishes the efficacy of pine tar as a moose repellent. Unfortunately, I can't cut and paste the relevant portions of the article so a screen shot of the most relevant portion will have to suffice.
