Here is a water pump that used a foot powered treadle system. It seems like it might be easier to use to pump a lot of water [ which is pretty heavy ] to an elevated storage tank to give you some pressure.

Thanks for the reminder that this thread was here, Guy. One of the things on my "to do before Equinox" chores is to design a way to pull water out of the drainage ditch so I can transport it to garden areas. I will have to schedule an evening to sit down and go through each comment and all the videos again. :)

From what you have said Lolly the drainage ditch is only 8" to 10" deep. Many of these pumps can lift water that high, and even pump it quite a distance. I thought about you when I posted the last video showing a treadle foot pump. I think it may be easier to operate the foot pump if you are trying to move a lot of water.

The water is only about 10" deep, but there is about 8' of bank to pull it up and over. The garden area is about 800 feet further into the property, so I'm thinking of putting a 55 gallon drum into the trailer I can pull behind the garden tractor. Fill up the barrel at the ditch, drive it to the hill above the garden (about 8' difference) then gravity feed the water into an as yet undetermined array of hoses for irrigation purposes.

That sounds like a Great Plan Lolly. Any number of these pumps could do the job for you. To fill a 55 gal drum quickly I would probably go with a 2" PVC pump, I think it would do a good job and pump the amount of water you need in a relatively short time.
