Well, this long haired hippy has been welcomed from the git-go, Frenchy. It's a friendly place to be.

It sounds like your previous occupation plays right into caring for a homestead, doesn't it? Well, you probably didn't have to wrangle too many guineas up in ranch country. ;) Is dealing with hardwood a new experience for you?

no not really was partly raised here on the place after folks moved here out of the service .... only heat in the house was wood so we did alot of cutting an splitting ..... my place ranges from several kinds of oaks mostly white, and red..... as well as couple types of hickorys then there are maples, elm, gum, dogwood an redbuds..... an of course got cedar an a few pine........ most of my place is thick growth with mostly undergrowth as well of briars, blackberry, and possum grape as well as muscadine vines... with about acre an half of pasture and a few open areas within the woods we have a wet weather creek and a year round spring with several hills and draws on the place not very level here hahahahaha.......... was different from here when got up into the fir and spruce, an aspen areas really had to rethink alot there even though as a small kid grew up in those places as well .....

last winters view while in stand deer hunting was surprised with the snow fall we normally get mostly ice very lil snow

Welcome Frenchy! Glad to have another hunter on here! How are the deer down your way? Getting any EHD or chronic wasting issues? I've been back & forth on raising animals vs huntin and tend to take in what orphans I can and hunt what I can. Definitely good to have options!

to the best of my knowledge we ain't got no issues with the deer yet an hope it don't reach here ......... I've raised several kinds hogs, rabbit, goats, chickens & guineas, and very seldom a beef to butcher and we hunt mostly deer, squirrel, an rabbit here but we also got hog, an bear, neither of which I have got a chance to take personally........

Welcome Frenchy. We are just a bit north of you in SW Missouri. I was talking with a couple of hog hunters recently and they say a lot of the hogs seem to hug the AR/OK state line. We have a few around here but I've yet to see any. They reckon that they took about seventy percent of the population out in our county a couple of years ago, but they are back to the same numbers already.
No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.
