SF, there is a thin plastic sheet available at the home stores that some folks use to create a smooth surface under flooring. A friend gave me the bits they had left over, thinking that I might be able to repurpose them somehow. It is flexible and seems to be only about 1/32 of an inch or so thick. It comes in large sheets, can be glued down and shouldn't present a problem when you are ready to screw your guides into place.

Is it hard though? The main concern would be something that the little grippy bumps on the bottom of the jars couldn't scratch the crap out of, or tear up. To keep them sliding smoothly over time. :)

Well, I'm not having any luck finding the stuff I'm talking about online. The plastic is similar to what is used for tubs of cultured milk products like cottage cheese or whipped butter.

Of course, there is always the option of using an epoxy coating. I don't think that would scratch too easily.

I am such a nerd. I can spend an hour on a plastics website, looking through the options for a project like that.
