The one concept he covered that resonated with me is the lack of yearly inputs required for continuity of perennial based agriculture. It does not matter if annuals are more productive. It doesn't even matter if annuals yield more by orders of magnitude. The fact that perennials require no annual inputs means that the cost benefit ratio will always be in favor of a perennial based system.
There was one other thing stated that should cause everyone to sit up and take notice - the temperate oak savannah is capable of supporting more mammalian pounds per acre than any other biome on the planet.
